GETTING REAL ABOUT GOVERNING CORPORATIONS
Wall Street seems
to have pronounced the death knell of capitalism. It has fallen
victim to the worst form of crony capitalism of which it used
to blame the Asian economies. Never before has the downward-slide
been so persistent, so long and so sharp. Every measure that
the US government is taking to prop up the market or the dollar
seems to be working otherwise....full

CORPORATE GOVERNANCE –
KEY TO SUSTAINABLE WEALTH CREATION
4th World Congress on Environment
Management
14-15 June 2002, Palampur, India
Seismic waves of corporate collapses continue
to rip through the boardrooms across the world. Markets all
over the world are sinking to their bottom. Dow Jones index
has been below 8000, FTSE 100 is well bellow 4000 and Sensex
hovering around 3000, their lowest levels since 9/11. The upper
most question in everybody’s mind is how to bring back
sanity into the markets. The general belief is the market collapse
is because of the lack of investor confidence due to accounting
frauds...full

His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, my revered

Mr William Halal, Mr Khurana, Gen. Ahluwalia and my most distinguished
friends in the audience. I am indeed honoured to be here today
on the occasion of the 4th World Congress on Environment Management.
Your Holiness, we are indeed grateful to you that you have blessed
us by your gracious presence. We do not have words to describe
the enormous elation that we feel by your beneficence. The fact
you could be with us today right on the dot despite your extremely
busy schedule has filled our hearts with joy, humility and eternal
gratitude to you........full

Sustainability
- the Biggest Business Opportunity of the 21st Century
Shattering
of a huge ice shelf Larsen B weighting 500 million billion tons
in Antarctica last week must enliven the environment debate
once again. Is it the clinching evidence of climate change through
global warming that we have been waiting for?
What is grave is that the total area of ice shelves which
have disintegrated
since 1945 is 7700 sq. km., whereas Larsen B. alone is
3250 sq. km. There have been several warnings before of Antarctica
heating up....full

Corporate
Governance -A Road Map to Achieve Corporate Excellence
I
compliment the Institute for the choice of the topic.
Role of Corporate Governance has never been more vital.
It is not just because of Enron or the UTI.
The debate about corporate governance is taking place
all over the world.
During the past one month I have visited UK, US, Germany,
Netherlands, Italy, Canada, Russia and the Middle East.
Corporates and governments everywhere are seized with
this topic and hoping this will help them attract foreign investment.
In fact the issue of Corporate Governance is much more....full

Corporate
Governance in the Knowledge Economy
2nd
International Conference on Corporate Governance,
18-19 January 2002, Mumbai, India
In
1966 Lester Thurow wrote in the "Future of Capitalism"
: "Paradoxically at precisely the time when capitalism
finds itself without any serious competitor, its former competitor
socialism and communism having died, it will have to undergo
a profound metamorphosis". That profound metamorphosis
has now begun in the form of developing an effective framework
for corporate governance....full

Changing
TQM Paradigm -
From Industrial Age to Knowledge Economy
Congress
Theme Address at the World Congress on Total Quality
The internet has created a Cambrian explosion
of opportunities which has brought forth profound change in
the competitive environment. Whether you call it a network economy,
a digital economy, knowledge economy, e commerce, e business
or e.world as I prefer to call it, it is clear that we are poised
on the crest of a revolution as profound as the one that gave
birth to the modern age. Contrary to the general belief, this
revolution that is changing our lives hour by hour is not being
driven by computers but by the power of communications. Four
factors are responsible for it. These are: .....

LEADING CORPORATE TRANSFORMATIONS
IN THE NEXT MILLENNIUM
Distance is dead. Long live the screen.
The marriage of prodigious computing power with telecommunications
is altering our world hour by hour and making all of us rapidly
deteriorating assets. From living in Marshall McLuhan's global
village we have been transported to the Burra Bazar of Calcutta
where our every movement and each nuance is causing ripples
that effect everyone else. Change- economic, social or political
- has been the biggest threat to business. But today it provides
the only grist to business's mill. Ignored or unanticipated
it can be devastating. But tapped properly it can offer the
greatest opportunity and act as the most powerful engine for
growth even to the most fledgling business. The greatest challenge
for transformational leaders lies in anticipating and adapting
to change, using it to spark innovation and generating creative
ideas to exploit change....full
